A rare Artemide “Macumba” model pendant lamp, designed by Orni Halloween (Ernesto Gismondi) and produced in the 1970s.
“Orni Halloween” is a pseudonym used by Ernesto Gismondi—founder of the renowned Italian lighting company Artemide—to sign a series of iconic lamps and furnishing objects starting in the 1970s. Under this name, Gismondi expressed an eclectic style aligned with the avant-garde movements of the era, such as Memphis design.
This large lamp features a black-painted metal structure supporting a large perforated sheet-metal dome (80 cm in diameter) at two different height settings. You can choose whether to position the dome closer to the light source (an E27 bulb with a ceramic socket housed within the lower dome) or further away.
Overall condition is quite good. The perforated metal dome shows some areas of oxidation and small spots, as shown in the photos. The black support structure has been touched up but still shows some minor imperfections and scratches. The coiled cable is original and fully functional; however, as is often the case with this type of fixture, the plastic mesh sections connecting the cables have lost their elasticity and tend to shed small fragments if handled roughly. Once the lamp is hung, this is no longer an issue.
Given its substantial size, the lamp makes a strong visual statement in the space where it is installed. The hanging height is determined by the length of the steel cable and can be adjusted as needed.
